What Sets High-Precision Capillary Printing Apart?

The recently acquired funds mark a continuation of Hummink’s progress since its foundation in 2020 as a spin-off from renowned institutions like École Normale Supérieure and the CNRS. Unlike traditional lithography methods that often result in material waste, Hummink’s High-Precision Capillary Printing (HPCaP) method uses a nano-scale device to deposit materials with precision. This enables effective and accurate circuit repair during production, significantly reducing fault rates and waste in semiconductor and OLED display manufacturing.

How Is Hummink’s Technology Implemented?

Hummink’s special printing system, NAZCA, is installed in various research centers around Europe, Asia, and the U.S., including places like Duke University. This platform is uniquely suited for developing advanced electronic components, making it an appealing option for improving manufacturing yields by approximately 10%. Additionally, trials with Asian display manufacturers indicate the potential of reclaiming defective panels, possibly reducing waste and increasing product availability.

As technological requirements for microelectronic devices increase, the necessity for innovative manufacturing solutions also grows. Hummink focuses on expanding the deployment of its systems to facilitate precision engineering directly within manufacturing facilities. This objective aligns with their strategic initiatives to position HPCaP as a key technology for upcoming generations of electronic devices.

Looking back, Hummink has maintained a clear trajectory towards integrating scientific research with practical industrial applications. By combining the scalability of their innovations with industrial relevance, they aim to confront challenges within the industry, such as reducing error rates in OLED display and semiconductor manufacturing. The company’s commitment to precision aligns with strengthening microfabrication capabilities globally.

Nuno Carvalho, Investment Director at KBC Focus Fund, commented,

“Hummink bridges academic excellence with industrial relevance. Their HPCaP technology is a breakthrough in nanofabrication.”

Meanwhile, co-founder Amin M’Barki explained the broader vision,

“Microelectronics is at the heart of the AI revolution, and every micron matters.”

Bpifrance contributes significantly to this development, providing strategic funding that aids in innovation and international expansion. The French Tech Seed Fund, coordinated by Bpifrance, specifically supports young enterprises like Hummink by investing in cutting-edge technologies that align with France 2030 goals.

Hummink’s focus on precision in manufacturing through its sub-micron printing technology holds promise for future applications across various industries. This latest funding will drive the next phase of development, addressing industry challenges by reducing error rates and increasing production yields. By leveraging ongoing research and maintaining a strong industrial focus, Hummink is positioned to play a crucial role in advancing microelectronics manufacturing.
