Visa (NYSE:V) and Transcard have collaborated to integrate embedded payment and working capital solutions into the WebCargo platform, operated by Freightos. This initiative aims to enhance the freight industry’s digital booking and payment processes. By leveraging Visa’s global expertise in commercial solutions alongside Transcard’s payment orchestration technology, they offer freight forwarders and airline carriers improved financial flexibility. This marks a significant development in modernizing air cargo transactions, making them as efficient as other online service bookings.

Earlier integrations in digital freight platforms often focused on basic functionalities like booking and comparison. While these provided initial convenience, challenges remained in securing seamless financial transactions. The partnership with Visa and Transcard extends beyond these initial steps, optimizing financial operations integral to international trade. Freightos CEO Zvi Schreiber emphasized the ease of transactions akin to booking flights online, illustrating the progression from basic digital services to comprehensive financial solutions.

What Solutions Are Being Provided?

The partnership introduces several key payment solutions to WebCargo. Freight forwarders and airlines are now afforded flexible credit terms, seamless onboarding, and automated reconciliation. This is facilitated through Visa’s virtual card infrastructure. Payment processes are integrated into routine digital activities, aiding efficiency and reliability in the freight sector.

How Will the Collaboration Impact the Freight Industry?

This collaboration is set to influence the freight industry by providing a streamlined financial experience. Incorporating financial services directly into freight operations meets the increasing demand for fast, seamless, and secure payment options. Visa’s senior vice president of commercial product, Gloria Colgan, notes the industry’s shift towards integrating financial services, aiming for invisibility and frictionlessness in transactions.

“Our partnership with Visa and Transcard brings us one step closer to a future where international trade is as easy to transact as booking a flight or taxi online,” said Zvi Schreiber, CEO of Freightos.

The partnership’s ambition extends further into the use of agentic artificial intelligence within B2B transactions. While specific implementations are at exploratory stages, they hint at future enhancements in transaction automation and intelligence. This could potentially redefine efficiency standards in the sector.

In May, Transcard also expanded its orchestration platform by partnering with Thredd, furthering its capabilities in payment method optionality for B2B and B2C applications. This reflects a broader trend in enhancing digital payment systems and optionalities.

Gloria Colgan reiterated, “Consumers increasingly expect payments to be invisible and frictionless,” emphasizing the demand for streamlined user experiences.

Moving forward, the success of these initiatives will likely depend on their ability to sustain customer loyalty and retention while providing robust financial management and transparency. As this collaboration continues to evolve, its impacts will offer essential insights into the integration of embedded finance in non-financial sectors.
