Soil Capital, a Belgian B-Corp based in Perwez, announced the completion of its €15 million Series B funding round. The funds will support the company’s mission to advance regenerative agriculture, focusing on the social, environmental, and economic needs of farms. The investment round, led by Trill Impact Ventures and supported by multiple investors, aims to bolster Soil Capital’s efforts in creating a sustainable and resilient food system.
Soil Capital has previously garnered attention for its innovative approach to agriculture, particularly its focus on low-carbon transitions. With the new capital, the company plans to extend its reach and impact, building on its existing initiatives. The company’s past achievements include paying over 800 farmers for eco-friendly practices and scaling their European presence significantly. The Series B funding represents a continued confidence in Soil Capital’s model and its potential to reshape agricultural practices globally.
Expanding Impact
Trill Impact Ventures led the funding round, with contributions from Société Fédérale de Participations et d’Investissement (SFPIM), Sandwater, Santander Alternative Investments, and existing investors. This backing will enable Soil Capital to scale operations and improve its data entry platform and agronomic support. Dr. Alexander Domin of Trill Impact Ventures emphasized the company’s capability to lead the transition in regenerative agriculture and reduce net emissions for food corporates.
“We believe that Soil Capital is well positioned to champion the regenerative agriculture transition. With their large base of loyal farmers and high-integrity standards for certification, they help some of the world’s largest food corporates reduce their net emissions and strengthen their supply chain’s resilience to climate change.”
Supporting Farmers
Soil Capital aims to transition 1 million hectares to regenerative agriculture by 2025, utilizing the new funds to enhance its platform and support services. This initiative will address the growing demand for indicators on greenhouse gas emissions, soil health, water quality, and biodiversity. CEO Chuck de Liedekerke highlighted the company’s vision to reshape the agricultural value chain and strengthen its impact.
“This new funding gives us the scope and capacity to take our impact to the next level, with an enhanced value proposition that will help to reimagine the relationship between society, land use, food systems, and nature.”
Soil Capital’s efforts in regenerative agriculture have led to substantial support for farmers across France, Belgium, and the UK, covering 350,000 hectares. The company’s certification programme aligns with corporate goals to reduce scope 3 emissions and meet international standards. By supporting farmers with verified methodologies, Soil Capital ensures positive environmental outcomes.
Peter De Decker of SFPIM reiterated the mission to support farmers in their transition to sustainable practices, while Charlotte Lafont of Ring Capital emphasized the company’s success and future potential. With this broad investor support, Soil Capital is well-positioned to expand its regenerative agriculture initiatives globally.
Soil Capital’s innovative approach addresses both environmental and socio-economic challenges in the farming sector. By focusing on comprehensive impact and scalable business models, the company not only supports farmers but also helps corporations meet sustainability targets. This integrated strategy is crucial for building a resilient food system that benefits all stakeholders involved.
