Amsterdam-based hospitality technology firm Mews has announced the acquisition of Auckland-headquartered Clarity Hospitality Software Solutions, marking its 12th acquisition. This strategic move aims to bolster Mews’ presence in the APAC and UK markets, supporting its growth in regions where hospitality brands increasingly adopt cloud-based technologies for operational efficiency and enhanced guest experiences. The acquisition reflects the company’s ambition to broaden its global influence within the hotel technology industry.
How does Clarity operate?
Established in 1992, Clarity Hospitality Software Solutions specializes in property and event management systems, catering to high-end hotels and event venues. Its customer base spans hotel management groups, independent hotels, and luxury resorts, with notable clients such as Capstone, Peel Hotels, Kinloch Lodge, and Amanaki Resorts. Serving both APAC and UK markets, Clarity has managed thousands of hotel rooms and maintained profitability over the years. It expanded its operations to the UK in 2016, further solidifying its presence in key markets.
What does Mews bring to the table?
Mews, known for its Mews Hospitality Cloud, provides solutions to streamline hotel operations, enhance guest experiences, and improve profitability for hoteliers. Its clientele includes prominent names like BWH Hotels, The Social Hub, and Airelles Collection. With over 5,500 customers across more than 85 countries, Mews has raised $335 million in funding from investors such as Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) Alternatives and Kinnevik. In the past year, the company experienced notable growth, increasing its UK customer base by 42% and APAC by 16%, while its valuation crossed $1 billion.
This acquisition comes shortly after Mews acquired Atomize, a revenue management software provider, further demonstrating its focus on integrating innovative solutions into its ecosystem. By incorporating Clarity’s expertise, Mews aims to leverage its resources to strengthen hotel operations globally. Commenting on the acquisition, Mews founder Richard Valtr stated,
“This partnership represents a fantastic investment into the APAC and UK markets, where we continue seeing hospitality brands adopting cloud technologies to streamline operations and reimagine the guest experience.”
Clarity’s CEO, Dougall Love, emphasized the synergies between the two companies, saying,
“Mews truly shares our vision of providing remarkable guest experiences, and we’re excited to continue supporting our customers with world-class resources as we join forces with Mews.”
In recent years, Mews has consistently expanded its global footprint through acquisitions, including the procurement of companies like Planet Winner and Base7Booking. However, this latest acquisition aligns with its focus on integrating cloud technologies and expanding its influence in emerging hospitality technology markets, particularly in APAC, a region that has seen increasing adoption of digitized hotel management systems.
The integration of Clarity into Mews’ portfolio is projected to strengthen its ability to cater to diverse hotel operations, particularly in regions with unique hospitality demands. As the industry shifts towards personalized and tech-enabled guest experiences, Mews positions itself as a key player capable of addressing these evolving needs efficiently. Its continued focus on acquisitions and innovation underscores its commitment to building a connected global network for modern hoteliers.
