Their investments have facilitated the growth of over 900 companies, showcasing a sustained commitment to strengthening Poland’s tech industry. This approach underlines PFR Ventures’ role in shaping the Central and Eastern European innovation landscape.
Which New Funds Received Investment from PFR Ventures?
The investment was directed towards four early-stage venture capital funds: 24Ventures, Digital Ocean Ventures Starter, Hard2beat, and Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder. These funds collectively have a total capitalization exceeding PLN 250 million (€58.4 million), with PFR Ventures contributing approximately PLN 200 million (€46.7 million).
What Are the Objectives of These Venture Capital Funds?
These funds aim to support startups developing innovative solutions in sectors such as digital transformation, FinTech, DeepTech, and scalable technologies. Each fund has a specific focus area, targeting companies that address long-term trends and foster technological advancement.
24Ventures plans to invest in young companies working on products aligned with long-term trends, including the digital transformation of businesses, climate change solutions, and social innovations. Over the next four years, it intends to support 18 globally scalable projects.
Digital Ocean Ventures Starter is set to finance enterprises in the FinTech sector and those involved in AI-supported digital transformation. Founded by a team with experience in banking, venture capital, and technology sectors, the fund leverages its venture-building expertise to foster growth in these areas.
Specializing in early-stage investments in DeepTech companies, Hard2beat focuses on supporting ambitious entrepreneurs dedicated to achieving long-term goals. The fund seeks to back startups developing software-based solutions that have the potential to make significant industry impacts.
Tar Heel Capital Pathfinder invests in globally scalable technology businesses across various sectors, including AI, SaaS, Marketplace, CleanTech, EdTech, MedTech, and Cybersecurity. Beyond funding, it offers startups technological, business, and marketing expertise, as well as access to a network of potential business partners to accelerate their growth.
According to Maciej Ćwikiewicz, President of the Board at PFR Ventures, the goal since 2018 has been to facilitate access to capital for Poland’s innovative enterprises by partnering with the best local and global management teams, including emerging managers. He emphasized the selection process by stating:
“We always set a high bar, albeit adjusted for new teams, with a strong focus on reputational aspects. We also expect to announce more funds that will receive our funding later this year.”
These investments are part of the European Funds for a Modern Economy program, the largest national initiative supporting innovation within the European Union. The program provides capital for venture capital funds with investment tickets of up to PLN 5 million (€1.16 million).
