The landscape of European carsharing undergoes a significant shift with the merger of Getaround Europe and GoMore. By uniting their operations, the two companies have created the largest peer-to-peer carsharing network across the continent. This collaboration aims to tackle challenges in the car industry, where overproduction and underutilization remain critical issues. The newly formed entity, now spread over 11 countries, plans to redefine vehicle sharing platforms in Europe. The strategic decision to join forces reflects both entities’ objectives to enhance mobility solutions.

What Is the Strategic Drive? Can Shared Mobility Be Redefined?

Both Getaround Europe and GoMore have been active players in the carsharing landscape for quite some time. Getaround expanded its footprint in Western Europe following its acquisition of Drivy and Nabobil in 2019, gaining strong market positions in countries like France, Germany, and Spain. On the other hand, GoMore, based in the Nordics, took a similar approach as it ventured into neighboring regions alongside its home territories. Although independently growing, their merging reflects a shared trajectory that leans toward local governance and enhanced user experiences.

What Is the Strategic Drive?

The merger’s success hinges on merging technological platforms and existing networks that complement each other. With the introduction of connected car technology and expertise from Getaround, combined with GoMore’s strength in long-term rental services, the coalition seeks to cover a broad spectrum of mobility solutions. Efficiently addressing the needs of private individuals and businesses, this new coalition aspires to provide more accessible and sustainable mobility.

Can Shared Mobility Be Redefined?

Their ambition extends beyond geographical and operational efficiencies. By reevaluating car ownership’s role within dense European cities, they hope to promote shared vehicle usage and reshape how people perceive mobility. Dense urban populations, shifts in travel habits, and supporting governmental policies offer fertile ground for carsharing to establish itself as an essential part of modern transportation systems.

The leadership team bridging both entities consists of Matias Møl Dalsgaard as Group CEO, Marie Reboul overseeing European markets, and Thomas Christensen as Group COO. Together, they aim to create a seamless transition toward this newly consolidated platform. The immediate objective is to solidify their position, ensuring no disruption occurs for existing users and partners.

Matias Møl Dalsgaard emphasized the aligned strategies and future goals:

“Now we are joining forces to build an undisputed European mobility champion to take car sharing to the next level across Europe.”

Marie Reboul echoed this sentiment, highlighting improved capabilities:

“Together, we are better positioned to drive carsharing adoption at scale, serve our users, and the long-term vision we have each been building for shared mobility.”

By pooling resources and aligning interests, Getaround Europe and GoMore address the necessity for shared mobility solutions amid rising car ownership costs. With changing perceptions about private car ownership, their concerted efforts place them at the forefront of Europe’s carsharing future. As transportation solutions continue to evolve, pooling resources will ensure that European consumers have streamlined access to shared mobility, potentially setting the benchmark for other regions considering similar ventures.
