United Airlines has announced a price increase for its airport lounge memberships while introducing new benefits for cardholders. These adjustments come as the company seeks to balance premium offerings with rising demand for exclusive travel perks. With air travel rebounding, United is adapting its pricing and benefits structure while maintaining its frequent-flyer engagement. The company has also introduced a new membership tier that allows additional guest access at a higher cost.

What Changes Are Being Made to Lounge Memberships? How Are Credit Card Fees and Benefits Changing?

United Airlines has previously adjusted its lounge membership fees and credit card benefits, often in response to fluctuating demand and competitive market trends. Past increases in fees have typically been accompanied by additional perks or adjustments aimed at maintaining customer satisfaction. Other major airlines have taken similar approaches, modifying pricing structures and access rules to align with evolving traveler expectations. Compared to previous updates, United’s latest changes reflect a continued focus on revenue generation through premium offerings.

What Changes Are Being Made to Lounge Memberships?

The cost of an individual United Club membership has risen from $650 or 85,000 miles to $750 or 94,000 miles per year. Under the new policy, only the passholder will be able to access the lounge. Additionally, United has introduced an “All Access” membership tier, which allows members to bring up to two guests for a total annual fee of $1,400 or 175,000 miles. These changes apply immediately to new members, while existing members will retain their current terms until their membership expires.

How Are Credit Card Fees and Benefits Changing?

United has also made adjustments to its co-branded credit card fees while adding new benefits. The United Explorer card’s annual fee has increased from $95 to $150, now including a $60 rideshare credit. The United Quest card’s fee has risen from $250 to $350, with new perks such as $100 in rideshare credits, two seat upgrades with extra legroom, and $200 in annual United travel credits. Meanwhile, the United Club Card now has a $695 annual fee, up from $525, offering a lounge membership valued at $750, $150 in rideshare credits, and a complimentary Instacart+ membership.

A growing demand for lounge access has been observed in recent years as travel has rebounded following the COVID-19 pandemic. With more travelers seeking premium experiences, airlines have adjusted their membership structures to manage capacity and increase revenue. Many customers enroll in airline lounges through frequent-flyer programs or co-branded credit cards, creating an additional income stream for airlines.

As lounge memberships and credit card fees rise, travelers must evaluate whether the new perks justify the added costs. For frequent flyers who prioritize convenience and comfort, the updated benefits may offer value, particularly with additional travel credits and seat upgrades. However, customers who travel less frequently or primarily seek lounge access may find the increased membership fees a less appealing option. Airlines continue to refine their loyalty programs and premium offerings, and further changes may be expected as competition and traveler preferences evolve.
